Townley Benson is referenced in an academic textbook on the history of Cuernavaca, near Mexico City by Robert Haskett, Professor of History at the University of Oregon. Cuernavaca, often called the "Mexican Paradise" or "Land of Eternal Spring," was frequented by artists and Benson was cited amongst them: "William Townley Benson, an artist from the United States, thought that the "weather as usual [was] perfection and the climate charming." (page 29).
